Nigeria, officially the Federal republic of Nigeria, is a country located in west Africa. The country is nicknamed the “Giant of Africa” because of its broad diversity.

It is the most populous country on the African continent with a population of more than 200 million people. The diversity of Nigeria is reflected in the fact that there are approximately 250 different ethnic groups and about 500 languages spoken in Nigeria.

The capital is called Abuja although the largest city is the coastal town and former capital, Lagos. Abuja has been the capital since 1991 as it has great communications and a central location.

The country offers many different kinds of natural environments such as deserts, plains, swamps, jungles and mountains.

The third largest river delta in the world, the Niger Delta, can be found in Nigeria.

Nigeria is known for being a top economy in Africa, this is largely due to their big export market. The agricultural industry accounts for a large part of the employment in the country but the largest export is of petroleum products. Nigeria is known for many different things but the country is well known for producing great actors and singers. For example, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Uzo Aduba and Taio Cruz have Nigerian parents.

The Nigerian movie industry is known as Nollywood and is estimated to be the second biggest in the world after Indian Bollywood.
